Principals Welcome

Welcome to John Hartley School!

I hope you enjoy getting to know our school and our unique programs as you take a journey through our website.

John Hartley is a school with a strong community feel and a relentless focus on positive learning for all. We have many exceptional programs supporting children and their families. We offer a seamless early care and primary education program across our Birth to 6 site.

Our school and community values excellence, learning collaboration, curiosity and problem solving. Our children learn and grow in a nurturing, caring, environment. We value and celebrate cultural diversity including a significant number of first nations students and families representing well over 20 different non-English-speaking language backgrounds.

We are strongly committed to forging pathways to the future for all students.

Our classroom learning spaces and buildings are grouped with bright, modern, light classrooms and roomy shared spaces to engage learners in a range of learning activities and programs. Our teachers work together to plan and design appropriate and high-quality and consistent learning experiences.

All our staff work in partnership with parents and families to achieve the best possible outcomes for all our children. We use newsletters,  Seesaw and Facebook to ensure we keep communication lines between families and the school and classrooms continuously open.

Our specialist programs of Science, PE and Health and Indonesian language and culture studies complement the core learning areas of all classrooms. Choir, coding clubs, Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden, SAPSASA sports programs and Information Communication Technologies add value to the strong learning opportunities for all students. We also provide many opportunities for students to develop and use leadership skills and character strengths.

Student well-being is of paramount importance to us at John Hartley. Our breakfast club is always well attended, and our wellbeing room caters for students with social, emotional, and sensory needs – all our staff are regularly trained in the principles of Berry Street and Positive Education programs. We are also strongly connected with Grow Wellbeing and the Smith Family.

John Hartley School is Birth to Year 6, so we have a unique early childhood setting on site that is our Children’s Centre. The Children’s Centre provides strong beginnings for the education and care of our youngest students as well as families, babies, and preschoolers within our community.

The grounds of John Hartley School are exceptional with well-maintained garden areas and play spaces including 2 playgrounds, sandpit, asphalt games and 2 large ovals. Our library, gym and canteen are of the highest quality.

We believe John Hartley School is a great place to learn, work and play!
